After notching an assist earlier in the period, Alex Ovechkin set up Aliaksei Protas’ goal to earn his 700th career NHL assist. With that milestone, Ovechkin became the 60th player in league history to reach 700 assists. He also joined an elite group of only six players to record both 700 goals and 700 assists, alongside legends Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Jaromir Jagr, Phil Esposito, and Marcel Dionne.
