The engine cover is a cover that – stop us if this is getting too technical – goes over the engine. While these tend to be one of the less complex pieces of bodywork geometry, there’s a lot going on with the modern engine cover, from the ridged centreline to the addition of a T-wing (aka ‘the coathanger’) for the high downforce tracks. While the underside of every engine cover features a heatshield, the team can choose between tight and looser bodywork, depending on how hot they believe the engine compartment is going to get at any given race.
