Sidney Crosby found the back of the net for the first time in his third NHL game. The play unfolded during a power play for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the latter stages of the second period. Crosby initiated the sequence with a cross-ice pass attempt that deflected off an opposing player, leading to a battle for puck possession right in front of the net. Getting to the net, Crosby stopped and positioned himself at the doorstep where the puck found him, seizing the chance and burying it in the open net. The 2005-06 season was a passing of the guard in Pittsburgh as it marked the end of franchise icon Mario Lemieux's illustrious career and the beginning of Crosby's own remarkable journey in the NHL.
