In his fourth NHL game, Paul Coffey scored his first career goal in front of the home crowd in Edmonton. On an Oilers power play, the puck was passed back to the point where Coffey skated to receive it before unleashing a slap shot that ripped past the netminder. Coffey's goal was the first of 396 during his NHL career, which currently ranks second all-time among defensemen in NHL history. The three-time Norris Trophy winner spent the first seven of his 21 seasons in Edmonton, where he won three of his four Stanley Cup championships.
